Boeing Sees Africa's Aviation Boom Amid Supply Constraints
Boeing expects Africa to become one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the next two decades, with passenger traffic projected to expand at a rate of almost 6 percent annually. The growth is driven by rising incomes, urbanization, and a growing middle class that will demand air travel.
The US aircraft maker estimates that African carriers will require 1,165 new commercial aircraft over the next 20 years, with about 70 percent of this requirement being driven by fleet growth. Boeing acknowledges that manufacturers are currently unable to supply aircraft quickly enough to meet airline demand due to production capacity constraints.
Shahab Matin, Boeing's Managing Director for Commercial Marketing, said at a recent media briefing in Nairobi that the near-term disruption does not have long-term implications on how traffic will grow. He expects global traffic to return to its earlier forecast trajectory by 2028-2029.
