Boeing Sees Surge in Aviation Personnel Demand
Boeing has released its 2026 Pilot and Technician Outlook at EAA AirVenture, forecasting a significant demand for aviation personnel over the next two decades. According to the report, nearly 2.5 million pilots, technicians, and cabin crew will be needed globally from 2026 to 2045.
The North American market is expected to account for one-fifth of this total, with 122,000 pilots, 128,000 technicians, and 191,000 cabin crew required. This figure reflects a modest increase in the projection from the previous year's report, with a 2.1% growth in pilot demand.
Boeing also expects that the North American market will take delivery of 8,405 commercial transport aircraft in the 20-year period, including regional jets, single-aisles, widebodies, and freighter configurations.
The report notes that the active recruitment of pilots and academy training and financial support offered directly by airlines appears to be pulling back due to their own success. This is particularly evident in North America and Eurasia, where retirement-driven replacement demand continues to support hiring.
