Boeing Sells Subsidiaries to Archer Aviation, Creates Industry Leader in Advanced Aviation
Aerospace giant Boeing is selling three subsidiaries to California-based Archer Aviation in a deal that combines their respective technologies and expertise. The move is part of Boeing's efforts to focus on its core business areas, as announced by CEO Kelly Ortberg last year.
The subsidiaries being sold include Wisk, an autonomous flying taxi company based in California; Insitu, a Washington-based developer of unmanned aircraft systems; and SkyGrid, a Texas-headquartered ground-based air traffic management solution. Archer Aviation will acquire nearly 20% stake in Boeing as part of the deal.
The acquisition is expected to create an industry leader in advanced aviation, with combined technologies including flying taxis, drones, artificial intelligence, and unmanned systems. Archer's CEO Adam Goldstein described the deal as a 'watershed moment' for the company and the future of physical AI in aerospace and defense.
