Boeing Shares Tumble on Ryanair Engine Malfunction
Boeing shares dipped 0.4% on Thursday as news broke out about an engine malfunction in a Ryanair aircraft.
The incident occurred on July 10, when a loud bang was heard after departure from Greece. Debris from the engine shattered a cabin window, severely injuring travelers, but fortunately, the plane landed safely.
According to the report, investigators discovered bird debris and broken fan blades inside the right engine of the Boeing 737 NG.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the CFM56 engine, which is manufactured by CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran SA. Regulators have mandated associated fan-cowl changes to be made by 2028.
Boeing's $715 billion order backlog restricts short-term revenue visibility, though the schedule for retrofits continues to pose a risk.
