Boeing Starts Serial Production of JDAM LR Glide Bomb Kit

Boeing has started serial production of its JDAM LR glide bomb kit, which can hit targets from over 555 km away. The company received a contract from the U.S. Air Force worth $75 million to supply an undisclosed number of kits.

The JDAM LR kit is designed to be easily integrated onto aircraft already using the standard JDAM kit, making it a cost-effective option for the military. However, its effectiveness is limited by Russian electronic warfare capabilities and range restrictions.

According to Colonel Mark Gunzinger, director of advanced concepts and capability assessment at the Mitchell Institute, the JDAM LR will be much less expensive than more advanced long-range munitions, making it an affordable mass-application asset.
