Boeing Stock Rises on Defense and Space Sector Growth
Boeing's stock price has risen by 7.4% year-to-date, outperforming its industry peers. The defense and space sector is seeing government support for strengthening national security, which could drive growth for Boeing.
The company's commercial aircraft franchise is a key driver of revenue, with the delivery of 171 airplanes in the second quarter of 2026, up 14% from last year. The 737 program has transitioned to 47 airplanes per month, and Boeing activated low-rate initial production on the North Line in July.
Boeing's defense business is also seeing growth, with the U.S. Navy MQ-25A Stingray completing its first flight and receiving Milestone C. The company has signed offset implementation agreements with Poland to establish long-term industrial cooperation for the maintenance and ground support of the country's AH-64E Apache helicopter fleet.
However, Boeing faces challenges in its commercial aircraft business, including slow production, delayed deliveries, and ongoing inspections that have led to recent order cancellations. The 777X program has suffered repeated postponements and significant cost overruns.
