Boeing Transfers Subsidiaries to Archer Aviation Amid Core Business Focus
Boeing has announced a significant move in its advanced air mobility strategy. The company plans to transfer subsidiaries Wisk Aero, Insitu, and SkyGrid to Archer Aviation. In return, Boeing will receive a substantial equity stake in Archer, estimated to be around 20%. This deal marks a pivot for Boeing towards its core commercial aircraft business.
The transfer of these subsidiaries aims to reshape Boeing's exposure to advanced air mobility and unmanned systems. By partnering with Archer, Boeing can maintain its involvement in emerging technologies while reducing its direct capital and operational commitment. This move aligns with the company's strategy to focus on its core 737 and 787 production and services business.
The success of this transaction will be measured by Boeing's ability to increase production on the 737 MAX family, including the newly certified 737-7. Improved operating margins and cash flow would demonstrate that freeing up attention and capital from these subsidiaries is helping Boeing deliver on its long-term earnings expectations.
