Boeing Unveils New Missile Design for Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2

Boeing has unveiled its design for the Indirect Fire Protection Capability Increment 2, a new missile intended to target incoming cruise missiles and other threats. The company is competing in the U.S. Army's competition alongside Lockheed Martin and Rafael. Boeing's teaming partner is Anduril.

The new missile design was showcased at the Space and Missile Defense Symposium in Huntsville, Alabama. According to Boeing, the program's timeline allowed for a new missile to be designed from scratch, rather than modifying an existing one. The service has called for a missile that provides capabilities similar to the AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (Amraam) but with a form factor closer to the AIM-9.

While Boeing and Anduril are starting fresh, Rafael is building on its experience with the Tamir missile. Lockheed Martin's design was not specified in their announcement of being selected for the competition. The Army had planned to select a company this year, but no specific timeline update has been provided.
