Boeing Whistleblower John Barnett Found Dead After Raising Safety Concerns
John Barnett, a former Boeing employee, was found dead in his truck in a hotel parking lot in South Carolina on March 9, 2024. At the time, authorities ruled it as a self-inflicted gunshot wound and a suicide.
Barnett had been working at Boeing for over three decades before retiring in 2017. He had raised concerns about aircraft safety issues, including problems with the oxygen system on board the 787 Dreamliner.
In 2019, Barnett shared his concerns with the BBC, alleging that passengers could be left without oxygen in case of sudden cabin decompression. He claimed that 75 out of 300 brand new oxygen systems did not deploy properly during a test he commissioned.
