The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $75 million contract to begin initial production of the JDAM Long Range weapon, also known as GBU-75.

This follows nearly $100 million in internal investment by Boeing and is a major milestone for the JDAM LR program.

The JDAM Long Range can travel over 300 nautical miles while carrying a 500-pound-class payload, making it suitable for conventional land strikes, naval strikes, and maritime aerial-mining missions.

Boeing's design combines an existing JDAM guidance tail kit with a wing kit and compact turbojet engine, allowing for rapid integration with aircraft already capable of carrying conventional JDAM weapons.
