Boeing Wins $75 Million Contract to Produce Long-Range Guided Bombs
The US Air Force has awarded Boeing a $75 million contract to begin production of the JDAM LR long-range precision-guided munition for the US Navy.
The contract includes the purchase of BSU-111/B Payload Delivery Unit (PDU) payload modules, which is an affordable and mass-producible option for striking targets from beyond enemy defenses.
According to Bob Ciesla, vice president of Boeing Precision Engagement Systems, 'JDAM LR gives operators an affordable, mass-producible option for striking targets from beyond the effective range of enemy defenses.'
The JDAM LR combines a tail guidance kit and aircraft integration system with a wing kit and a compact turbojet engine, allowing it to travel over 300 nautical miles (555 km) with a 500-pound (226 kg) payload.
