Boeing's 737-7 Aircraft Receives FAA Certification
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted certification to Boeing's 737-7 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the manufacturer's commercial program. The approval follows an extensive certification campaign involving over 1,000 hours of flight and ground testing.
Boeing can now move forward with delivering the first 737-7 aircraft to its launch customer, Southwest Airlines. The certification represents another step in Boeing's effort to complete regulatory approval for every variant of the 737 MAX family.
The 737-7 is the smallest variant in the 737 MAX family but offers the longest range among its siblings. Configured to accommodate between 135 and 160 passengers, the aircraft provides airlines with flexibility to serve lower-demand markets while maintaining the economics of a larger narrow-body jet.
One of the standout features of the 737-7 is its impressive range of up to 3,800 nautical miles (approximately 7,040 kilometres), allowing airlines to operate longer domestic and regional routes. The aircraft also offers roughly 10% greater range potential than other members of the 737 MAX family.
The FAA certification is a major achievement for Boeing and its airline customers. With over 7,200 orders accumulated as of June 2026, the program has seen substantial demand for the 737 MAX family. The addition of the certified 737-7 further strengthens Boeing's narrow-body product portfolio, offering airlines another efficient solution to meet evolving market demands.
