Boeing's 737 MAX Troubles Continue with New Lawsuit
Boeing's troubles with the 737 MAX continue to escalate as four affiliate companies of Norwegian Air claim that they're exempt from the $212 million settlement reached in 2020. The affiliates, which own 12 of the aircraft, are seeking to sue Boeing separately for allegedly inducing them into buying the planes under false pretenses.
Norwegian Air originally sued Boeing in 2020, claiming that the aerospace giant misled them into purchasing 18 737 MAX aircraft by portraying it as a safe and modest evolution of the 737. The airline argued that Boeing knew about internal concerns regarding the MCAS system but continued to market the MAX as a straightforward extension of the existing 737 family.
The settlement, which was reported as an accounting gain of NOK 2 billion ($212 million), was supposed to terminate all outstanding lawsuits with Boeing. However, the current plaintiffs claim that they're not covered by the agreement and are seeking to force a former senior Boeing executive to testify in their case.
