Boeing's 737 Production Rate Rises Amid Labor Uncertainty
Boeing's commercial aircraft recovery is gaining momentum as the company increases its 737 production rate toward 47 aircraft per month. However, a labor dispute involving SPEEA-represented engineers and technical workers poses a significant risk to factory support, aircraft deliveries, and certification.
The North Line in Everett has officially opened for low-rate initial production of the 737 MAX, providing additional space to expand capacity without relying on the existing Renton facility. This expansion is crucial as Boeing aims to increase output while maintaining safety, quality, manufacturing discipline, and regulatory compliance.
SPEEA members have authorized a potential strike, with the Professional Unit voting 87.82% in favor of strike authorization and the Technical Unit approving it by 89.71%. The contracts expire on October 6, making an October 7 start date for a work stoppage possible.
