Boeing's 777X Delay: Early-Built Aircraft Need Major Rework

Boeing's ambitious 777X program has hit a roadblock. Nearly 30 early-built aircraft, built between 2019 and 2021, now require significant rework before they can be delivered to customers.

The issue arose due to the lengthy certification process, which led to design changes that made the existing aircraft obsolete.

Boeing plans to carry out extensive 'change incorporation' work on these early-built aircraft, but this process could take years. CEO Kelly Ortberg has indicated that the company aims to recover as much value as possible from these planes.

The rework is a complex and time-consuming task, especially considering that many of these aircraft were already assembled and configured before the final design changes were introduced.
