Boeing's 777X Programme Slips Again, Delivery Now Targeted for 2027
The Boeing 777X, once touted as the future of long-haul air travel, has been plagued by delays and certification issues.
Originally due to enter service in 2020, the aircraft's delivery date has slipped repeatedly, with the latest estimate pushing it into 2027.
The delay is a major setback for Boeing, which has booked billions in additional charges against the programme. Emirates, the largest customer with over 200 orders, is feeling the pinch as well, with its first 777-9 expected no earlier than late 2026 or early 2027.
Emirates has taken a strategic approach to mitigate the impact of the delay, taking delivery of Airbus A350-900s and retrofitting its existing A380 and 737 fleets. However, the airline's patience is wearing thin, with Emirates President Sir Tim Clark publicly expressing frustration over the repeated delays.
