Boeing's First 777 Lands in Arizona for Retirement
The first Boeing 777 airplane has retired after nearly 25 years of service. The aircraft, call sign B-HNL, was delivered to Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific airline in 2000 and accumulated over 49,687 hours of flying time across 20,519 flights.
Cathay Pacific was instrumental in the development of the Boeing 777, providing design advice during its creation. The airline has been a long-time user of the aircraft, which is widely regarded as one of the most successful commercial airliners in history.
The Boeing 777-200 is set to be replaced by the newer 777-9 model, with Cathay Pacific expecting to welcome the new aircraft into their fleet from 2021. The Pima Air & Space Museum in Arizona has taken possession of the retired airplane, where it will serve as a top attraction.
