Boeing's Ghost Bat Takes Flight: Collaborative Combat Aircraft Prove Its Mettle
Boeing's MQ-28 Ghost Bat made its first appearance at Farnborough International Airshow, showcasing its capabilities as a collaborative combat aircraft. The Ghost Bat has been designed to work with crewed aircraft, carrying mission-specific sensors or other payloads and executing parts of a mission with minimal increase in workload for human operators.
The aircraft's performance is impressive, with a range of over 2,300 miles, a speed of up to Mach 0.9, and a ceiling above 40,000 feet. Its modular nose design allows for easy installation of different sensors, giving buyers the flexibility to adapt the same airframe for various missions.
One of the key aspects of the Ghost Bat is its ability to operate in a collaborative environment. It has already participated in multinational joint operational exercises, including Valiant Shield 2026, where it worked alongside U.S. and allied aircraft. The exercise demonstrated the Ghost Bat's capabilities in real-world scenarios, including forward arming and refueling drills.
The aircraft has also undergone live-fire missile tests, showcasing its ability to execute autonomous mission tasks while being overseen by human operators. Boeing's Defense chief Steve Parker said, 'We've proven that it's combat capable.' The success of the Ghost Bat is significant, as it marks a major milestone in the development of collaborative combat aircraft.
