Boeing's Safety Troubles Deepen Amid $3.1 Million Fine
Boeing's safety concerns have deepened after it paid a $3.1 million fine to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for violating quality standards.
The FAA found hundreds of quality-system violations at Boeing's 737 production facility in Renton, Washington, and at Spirit AeroSystems' facility in Wichita, Kansas.
The issues included problems linked to the January 2024 Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 incident, where a door plug came off during takeoff without causing fatalities.
Boeing was criticized for pressuring an employee working on behalf of the regulator to approve a 737 MAX despite safety concerns, highlighting weaknesses in its certification processes and independence of safety oversight.
