Boeing's Smallest 737 MAX Variant Cleared for Commercial Service
Boeing's smallest 737 MAX variant, the 737-7, has finally received certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), paving the way for commercial service and first deliveries.
The certification marks a major milestone in Boeing's commercial aircraft programme, which was delayed by years due to regulatory scrutiny and design changes required by regulators.
The 737-7 is designed for short and medium-haul networks, with a seating capacity of between 135 and 160 passengers. It offers improved efficiency, greater range, and lower operating costs compared to previous-generation 737NG aircraft.
Boeing completed over 1,000 hours of flight and ground testing before receiving FAA approval, which also incorporated several design updates requested by regulators.
The certification is a significant step in rebuilding momentum for Boeing's commercial programme. Launch customer Southwest Airlines is expected to be the first operator of the 737-7, with delivery scheduled after March 2027.
