Boeing's White-Collar Union Rejects Contract Offer Amid Inflation Concerns
Boeing's white-collar union, SPEEA, rejected the company's four-year contract offer in a vote on Friday. The agreement was put to members of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace, who make up about 17,000 Boeing employees.
The proposal included wage increases tied to inflation, capped at 3%, and individual performance-based raises. However, several union members felt that these increases were not enough to keep pace with the high cost of living in the Seattle area, where most SPEEA members work.
Union officials stated that 64% of engineers voted against the agreement, while about 72% of technical workers also rejected it. The union's negotiating team has been given the power to declare a strike when the contract expires on October 6.
