Boeing's Widebody Deliveries Stall as 787 Handovers Decline
Boeing's August order book slowed significantly as deliveries dipped in August due to weaker performance on its widebody program.
The manufacturer received 42 gross orders, a decline from previous months, with net orders also lower after accounting for cancellations and conversions. The slowdown is attributed to the traditionally quieter summer period for commercial demand.
Boeing handed over 51 aircraft in August, down from 56 jets delivered in July, with the drop largely driven by a decrease in 787 Dreamliner handovers. The single-aisle 737 Max accounted for most of August's deliveries.
The company remains focused on stabilizing production following regulatory scrutiny and supply chain constraints, with Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg emphasizing methodical rate increases prioritizing quality control over volume to rebuild trust with airlines, regulators, and the flying public.
