Boston resident Jeramie Croft has been sentenced to two and a half to three years in state prison for running a months-long shoplifting operation at Home Depot stores.

Croft, who had over 80 prior convictions on his record, pleaded guilty to all seven charges against him, including larceny and malicious destruction of property.

The scheme began on February 23, 2025, when Croft stole two drill combination kits valued at $798 from the South Bay Mall store. Over several months, he used large trash barrels to wheel out hundreds or thousands of dollars in merchandise without paying.

Croft's case highlights a broader trend of retail theft in the area, with shoplifting arrests surging 261% citywide in 2025 compared to the five-year average.
