BQP Scores $8M Investment from IBM Ventures for Quantum-Algorithm Physics Acceleration
IBM Ventures has invested in BQP, bringing its total funding to $8 million and backing the company's expansion from engineering design into real-time operational decisions. This investment extends a technical relationship between IBM and BQP that began in 2023, when BQP joined the IBM Quantum Network.
BQP's flagship platform, BQPhy , puts to work the capacity of graphics processing units (GPUs) left idle by classical physics solvers. These solvers leave around 85% of a GPU's floating-point capacity unused because they are bound by memory access rather than compute.
BQP's CEO, Abhishek Chopra, said that the industry has spent years treating this as a hardware problem, but it is actually a software problem. BQPhy uses a physics-AI optimization engine to resolve full-fidelity physics inside operational decision windows.
