Brazil's Doutor Leite Lopes State Airport Transformed into Community Hub
The Doutor Leite Lopes State Airport in Ribeirão Preto has undergone a significant transformation, courtesy of Bacco Arquitetos Associados. The design aims to turn the airport into an active urban element that is integrated with the surrounding community.
The architects have used Glued Laminated Timber (glulam) structures to reduce the carbon footprint and create a connection with the local agro-industrial identity. This approach has converted transit infrastructure into a welcoming space for social gathering.
The project covers an area of 10840 square meters and is expected to be completed by 2026. The design incorporates various manufacturers, including Saint-Gobain, Alucomaxx, Crosslam, Hunter Douglas, Pertech do Brasil, Portobello, and Sherwin-Williams.
