Brighton Sends Statement with Thrashing of Aston Villa
Brighton & Hove Albion made a statement in their Premier League opener against Aston Villa on August 23, thrashing the visitors 4-0 at the American Express Stadium.
The damage started early when Victor Lindelof turned the ball into his own net in the 8th minute, giving Brighton an early lead they never looked like relinquishing.
Brighton doubled their advantage just ten minutes later through Maxim De Cuyper's goal, making it 2-0 in the 18th minute. The Seagulls then scored two more goals in quick succession, with Jack Hinshelwood scoring twice in the space of 60 seconds in the 30th and 31st minutes.
Aston Villa's afternoon went from bad to worse when they received a red card after Brighton's fourth goal, reducing them to 10 men for the remainder of the contest. This result will put early pressure on the squad's mentality.
