Brin Leads Fight Against California Tax
California's billionaire tax proposal has sparked controversy among its supporters and opponents. One of those opposing the measure is Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who claims that it could create an oppressive society in California.
Brin has donated a total of $102 million to Building a Better California, a political advocacy group opposing the tax. This includes an additional $20 million made recently to further his opposition.
According to Sanders, Brin's net worth stands at $260 billion and would owe $14 billion if the 5% wealth tax were to pass. Despite this, he would still have a net worth of $270 billion.
California Governor Gavin Newsom also opposes the state's billionaire wealth tax, warning that it could drive wealthy residents away and shrink revenue for social services.
