A survey of UK adults by American Express found that nine in ten people belong to at least one loyalty scheme, with the average Briton part of twelve different programs.

Supermarkets led the way, with 87% of respondents belonging to a loyalty program offered by these retailers, followed by high street retailers (66%) and food and drink chains (50%).

The survey revealed that consumers are increasingly using rewards to manage their household finances, with 40% using rewards to lower the cost of everyday spending and 37% using them to get better value from planned purchases.

Across all loyalty programs, members who redeemed rewards estimated they saved an average of £132.30 over the past year, while the top 5% of redeemers estimated they saved £797.50 on average.
