Buffett Sounds Alarm on Overvalued Stocks
Warren Buffett has been warning investors about the high valuations in the stock market. The S&P 500 has soared over the past few years, with AI stocks leading the way. This trend has resulted in a 'Total Conviction' signal flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia, similar to what happened in 2009 when the same signal flashed for Nvidia.
The S&P 500 Shiller CAPE ratio has reached beyond 41, a level only seen once before during the dot-com boom. This measure indicates that stocks are trading at historically expensive levels, and history shows declines often follow such high valuations.
Buffett's strategy focuses on buying quality stocks for reasonable prices and holding onto them for the long term. He doesn't follow market trends but instead looks for quality stocks that have fallen out of favor or haven't yet gained favor. In an interview with CNBC, Buffett said many market participants are 'gambling' due to a peak in the 'gambling mood,' referring to buying one-day options or selling them.
