Buffett Successors' Top Stock Picks Reveal Growing Focus on Tech
Berkshire Hathaway, led by Warren Buffett's successors, owns more than 60 businesses and has a stock portfolio worth over $300 billion. The conglomerate focuses on companies with competitive advantages and buys stocks at attractive valuations. Three of its publicly traded holdings stand out: American Express (AXP), Alphabet (GOOGL)(GOOG), and Ally Financial (ALLY).
American Express is Berkshire's second-largest investment, with a long history of ownership. The company earns interest income on loans and fees from cardholder transactions. Its affluent customer base may help it withstand consumer spending fluctuations.
Berkshire has been aggressively buying Alphabet shares, making it the conglomerate's fourth-largest holding. Alphabet's Google Services and Cloud businesses generate strong cash flow, with Cloud experiencing 82% revenue growth in its latest quarter. The company's $514 billion backlog suggests significant growth potential.
In contrast, Berkshire trimmed its stake in Ally Financial by about 7% in the second quarter, but this may have been a position-sizing move rather than a bearish outlook. Ally is a leading lender with over $100 billion in retail deposits and a strong history of responsible growth and risk management.
