Bull Put Down After Running Loose with Cow on US-131
A bull and its companion cow managed to escape from a livestock trailer on US-131 in Byron Township, Michigan. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning near 76th Street.
The animals ran loose along the highway, slowing traffic and causing a scene. Video footage shared by Fox 17 shows the bull and cow running along the road before going onto the exit ramp near Caterpillar Drive.
Deputies and others tried to contain the animals for over 40 minutes, but they were unable to secure them safely. A woman with experience handling cattle attempted to lasso the bull, but she was trampled and suffered minor scratches and bruising.
As the situation became more dire, the owner and deputies agreed that it was necessary to put down the bull due to its growing aggression. A sheriff's office supervisor shot the bull with a rifle to protect the public.
