BUMA Migrates SAP S/4HANA Environment to Microsoft Azure
Indonesian mining contractor PT Bukit Makmur Mandiri Utama (BUMA) has successfully migrated its SAP S/4HANA environment to Microsoft Azure with the help of NTT Data. The migration aimed to improve the efficiency of BUMA's business-critical mining operations by reducing latency, system responsiveness, and operational downtime.
The existing on-premises SAP environment was limited by hardware scalability and legacy infrastructure, making it difficult for BUMA to accelerate and support future business expansion and digital modernization initiatives. The company needed a robust, cloud-ready architecture that could scale rapidly, deliver consistent performance, and improve system reliability.
NTT Data designed an Azure-optimized architecture for BUMA's SAP S/4HANA environment, reducing the recovery point objective (RPO) by 98% and recovery time objective (RTO) by 80%. The migration also improved system performance, allowing BUMA to support AI-assisted forecasting, operational insights, and intelligent automation capabilities in the future.
The partnership between NTT Data and Microsoft enabled BUMA to accelerate its project timeline while maintaining quality and minimizing risk. The company's IT Head, Edwin Rene Asparsayogi, praised NTT Data for bringing 'technical depth, discipline, and structured methodology' required for a transformation of this scale.
