Burger King Finally Finds Its Fire After Years of Struggle
After two strong quarters, Burger King is finally showing signs of recovery. Same-store sales at the burger chain rose by nearly 6% in the first quarter and another 8.5% in the second quarter.
This growth outpaced McDonald's, which saw a modest 0.8% increase in same-store sales during the same period. Burger King's progress can be attributed to its revamped menu and marketing efforts, including its Reclaim the Flame initiative.
Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Burger King, has been working on revamping the brand since 2018. As part of this effort, over 1,000 restaurants have been remodeled, and more are planned for the next few years.
The improved performance at Burger King is a welcome change for Restaurant Brands International, which had seen its other brands struggling. Tim Hortons, the company's anchor brand, has seen same-store sales growth slow to 0.1%, while Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen saw a decline in U.S. same-store sales of 5.2%.
