The global electric vehicle (EV) market saw significant developments in Q2 of this year. According to TrendForce, BYD regained its lead in global BEV sales, surpassing Tesla for the first time since last year's figures. Despite a decline in sales compared to the previous year, BYD managed to regain its position with 10.4% YoY growth. Meanwhile, Tesla dropped to second place despite achieving 25% YoY growth in global sales.

The EV market as a whole reached 5.37 million units in Q2, up 10.4% from last year. China remains the world's largest EV market. In other news, IBM and Arm are collaborating on designing a dual architecture processor for future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems.

This innovative design allows both IBM and Arm instructions to be executed natively by each processor core, enabling coexistence of different software environments within the same enterprise system. Additionally, AMD's share of the x86 CPU PC market has surpassed 30% for the first time, according to Mercury Research. Its share was 30.3% in Q2, with Intel holding 69.7%.

Nvidia is facing concerns over debt default risk due to the rising price of Credit Default Swaps insuring against such an event. The worry is that an AI downturn could unravel the circular deals entered into by Nvidia with other AI players, leaving Nvidia on the hook. Meanwhile, Infineon has acquired C2i Semiconductors, a company specializing in software-defined multiphase controllers and smart power stages for AI datacenter applications.
