California Woman Refuses to Pay 10-Cent Paper Bag Fee at Los Angeles McDonald's

A California woman, TikToker Malon Sanaii (@malonsanaii), refused to pay for a paper bag at a Los Angeles McDonald's. She was charged 10 cents because her city has implemented a law requiring businesses to charge customers a minimum of 10 cents per paper bag they provide.

Sanaii decided not to pay the fee and instead walked out of the store with her food in one of the restaurant's trays, which she recorded on video. Several people commended her for taking matters into her own hands, while others were stunned to learn that Mickey D's was charging for paper bags.

In some areas, including Los Angeles, local ordinances have devised ways to cut down on single-use materials by requiring companies to add a 10-cent charge per bag issued. This is not a McDonald's policy but rather an effort to reduce waste and encourage customers to bring reusable totes.
