Call of Duty Switch 2 Port Disappoints with Frame Rate Over Resolution Trade-Off
A major gaming deal between Microsoft and Nintendo has finally borne fruit, but it's not all good news for fans of Call of Duty. In February 2023, a binding 10-year contract was signed to bring Activision's popular franchise to Nintendo platforms, contingent on the acquisition of the publisher by Microsoft.
The first Call of Duty game on Switch 2 is Modern Warfare 4, set to release on October 23, 2026. However, early testers have been less than impressed with the port, which prioritizes frame rate over resolution. The game reportedly targets and mostly hits 60 fps in docked mode but dips during busier moments.
A few content creators were able to go hands-on with the Switch 2 version and share footage and impressions. They agree that the visual trade-off is significant, with heavy artifacting particularly around character models, weapons, and buildings. The base resolution isn't great, and the DLSS implementation has been criticized as looking 'bad'.
Interestingly, the experience somehow improves in handheld mode, where the smaller screen size makes the resolution shortfall less noticeable. However, the Joy-Con's limited stick travel was flagged as a genuine handicap for aiming precision in a fast-paced shooter, recommending the Pro Controller instead.
