Canada Probes Potential Risks from Fake Labels on Imported Food

A food safety operation in India has led Canada to assess potential risks to imported products. Indian authorities discovered a warehouse in Navi Mumbai containing allegedly falsified expiry dates and nutritional information on several branded goods, including PepsiCo's Lay's and Kurkure, Nestlé's Maggi, Unilever's Knorr and Hellmann's, and Coca-Cola's Thums Up and Limca.

Among the seized products were items with Canadian-style bilingual labelling, which raised questions about their intended destination. However, Indian officials have not established that these relabelled products were actually exported to Canada.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is monitoring the situation but currently has no information indicating affected products reached the Canadian market.
