Canada's Visa Processing Times Take Effect: Key Numbers for Indian Applicants
Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated its processing times for temporary resident visas. For Indians, work permit applications continue to take an estimated nine weeks and study permits five weeks. The processing time for visitor visas has increased by a day from 30 days to 31 days.
The current wait times are the same as the US for study permits, while Indian applicants face longer processing times compared to the Philippines for work permits. Visitor visa applicants in India have a shorter wait than those in the US and Philippines, but slightly longer than before. IRCC notes that these figures are estimates, not deadlines or guarantees, and actual processing can vary depending on factors such as application complexity and available resources.
Between January and June 2026, Canada processed over 1.57 million temporary residence applications, with more than 401,000 remaining pending at the end of June. The next update on processing times is expected around August 26.
