Car Rental Rates to Rise 1.5-2% Amid Improved Supply
American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has released its Ground Monitor 2026-2027 Report, which forecasts a 1.5-2% annual increase in car rental rates due to restrained GDP growth and improved supply in the US and Canada.
The report highlights that rising city surcharges are driving up hiring costs, particularly in North America, where once limited to key cities, these fees have become more common and will contribute to higher overall costs.
To adapt to this changing landscape, travel managers are advised to explore opportunities for aligning rentals and fleet management with a single provider, build deeper relationships, and consider renting versus ride-hailing.
