Cargo Jet Crash at MIA Leaves Five Dead, Investigation Underway
Federal investigators are still trying to determine what caused an Amazon cargo jet to crash at Miami International Airport on Sunday, killing five people and injuring two others.
The Boeing 767-300, operated by 21 Air as Prime Air Flight 7598, was landing after a two-hour flight from Puerto Rico when it overshot the runway and burst into flames.
According to investigators, there were no signs of speed brakes or thrust reversers being deployed before the crash. The plane's recorded ground speed was 65 knots at the final moment of available data.
The investigation is focusing on the pilot's actions, as well as the role of air traffic controllers in the incident. The NTSB will also review the jet's ownership history, maintenance records, and operations by 21 Air.
