Cargo Jet Crash at Miami Airport: Pilots Ignored Warnings
A Boeing 767 cargo jet operated by Miami-based 21 Air crashed at Miami International Airport on September 8, killing five people and injuring five others.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released an investigative update on Wednesday detailing the cockpit voice recording from the incident.
According to the NTSB, one of the pilots cautioned that they were flying 'too fast' just over a minute before touching down on the runway, but the other pilot did not give a clear verbal response.
The plane overran the runway by 1,300 feet and crashed into two vehicles on the ground. The pilot's warning was followed by automated warnings of 'sink rate sink rate' and 'too low terrain.'
Anthony Brickhouse, an aerospace safety consultant, said that the pilots had several cues that their approach was not stable, but they continued instead of going around.
