Cargo Plane Crashes in Miami, Pilots Had Considered Abort
A cargo Boeing 767 operated by Miami-based airline 21 Air ran off the runway and crashed into two vehicles on Sunday, resulting in five deaths and five injuries. The pilots of Amazon Prime Air Flight had considered aborting the landing before the incident occurred.
According to the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), data from the flight recorder indicates that the crew's thoughts turned to aborting the landing thirty seconds before the end of the recording. The nose gear and right main landing gear touched down on the runway, while the left main gear followed nineteen seconds later.
The recorded data shows that the brakes were released and engine thrust values increased shortly after, consistent with a go-around maneuver. However, there is no indication of speed brakes or thrust reversers being used.
