Carl Barks Disney Library Volume 26: A Treasure Trove of Uncle Scrooge Stories
Volume 26 in Fantagraphics' The Complete Carl Barks Disney Library is Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge: 'The Golden Nugget Boat'. This collection brings together comic-book stories starring Uncle Scrooge from March-April 1960 to January 1961, and his nephew Gyro Gearloose from January 1970 to January 1971. The book includes a Cover Gallery, 'Story Notes' with annotations by a team of writers, 'It Was the Best of Dimes', which explores Scrooge's Number One Dime by J. Michael Catron, and 'Carl Barks: Life Among the Ducks', a biography by Donald Ault.
The stories in this volume are full of humor and adventure. In 'The Golden Nugget Boat', Scrooge buys a golden nugget from Gladstone Gander, who found it at the dump, and decides to head to Alaska with his family to find more gold. Meanwhile, in 'That's No Fable', Scrooge claims that he has discovered the legendary Fountain of Youth and its guardians while searching for land to build cities in Florida.
In other stories, Donald's girlfriend Daisy invites Scrooge to a party, but he runs away because he doesn't want to buy a new suit. However, his comical getaway causes him to be mistaken for a 'ragged hobo'. In 'Billions in the Hole', Uncle Scrooge's engineers invent a Subtractor that shrinks things, but it is stolen by the Beagle Boys, who use it to shrink Scrooge's money bin and get dragged into an ant hill.
