Caterpillar Inc., manufacturer of heavy equipment and machinery, has reported its highest quarterly sales ever. In Q2 2026, the company achieved $20.5 billion in revenue, a 24% increase from the same period last year. This milestone was accompanied by a significant jump in adjusted earnings per share to $8.17, up 73% year-over-year, and an EBIT margin expansion to 21.89%, a gain of 463 basis points.

The growth can be attributed to strong demand across all three primary segments: Construction Industries, Power & Energy, and Resource Industries. The backlog surged to $72 billion, up $9 billion sequentially and approximately 92% year-over-year. CEO Joe Creed highlighted the significance of this achievement in a recent earnings call.

Management has also raised full-year 2026 sales guidance to mid-to-high-teens growth and now expects Machine, Energy, and Transportation free cash flow in the top half of its $6 billion to $15 billion target range. Caterpillar returned $2.2 billion to shareholders through buybacks and dividends, including an 8% dividend increase announced in June.
