Caterpillar is making waves in the AI industry by leveraging its expertise in mining automation and industrial equipment to support the booming data center market. The company's second-quarter sales and revenue reached a record $20.5 billion, with Power & Energy sales rising 17% to $8.2 billion.

The growth story runs through data centers, where power generation retail sales grew by an impressive 72%. Caterpillar CEO Joseph Creed attributed this success to strong demand for large generator sets and turbines used in data center applications.

Caterpillar's AI credential lies not in lab demos or office software, but in its real-world industrial applications. The company has over 820 autonomous trucks operating worldwide, hauling more than 11 billion tonnes of material with no reported injuries.

The company's connected assets total 1.6 million globally, generating over 16 petabytes of structured data. Caterpillar's Cat AI Assistant tool allows technicians to troubleshoot issues and identify parts using voice commands, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency.
