Caterpillar Ranks 99th Among Illinois' Top Employers by Forbes
Caterpillar has been named among Illinois' top 100 employers by Forbes in its annual Best Employers by State list. The company, founded in Peoria in 1925 and now with headquarters in Texas since 2022, ranks 99th on the list. Forbes conducted a survey of over 245,000 employees from companies with 500 people or more across the United States to determine the top employers.
The survey evaluated companies based on wages and benefits, management style, reputation, flexibility, and career advancement. Employees were asked how likely they were to recommend their company to others and provided feedback on their prior employers and other organizations in their industry. The data was then incorporated into a scoring system that weighs more recent responses heavily.
Illinois' top employer is Google, with two Chicago offices, followed by AutoZone, Southwest Airlines, Microsoft, and Costco. Caterpillar maintains offices and facilities in the Peoria area and across Illinois despite its corporate headquarters being relocated to Texas.
