Caterpillar Rides AI-Led Demand Boom to Record Quarter
Caterpillar has raised its annual revenue growth forecast after beating second-quarter profit estimates. The equipment giant's stock surged 12% in morning trading, on track for its best day in over 17 years, following a quarterly earnings beat and raised forecast. This signals that the AI-led demand boom for ancillary equipment is sustainable.
Caterpillar's construction segment saw a 35% revenue growth in the April-to-June quarter, driven by strong retail sales in North America, where it recorded a 50% jump. The power and energy arm posted 17% growth in revenue during the same period.
The company's results are often seen as a bellwether for the industrial economy. Analysts believe that construction orders will continue to drive growth amid a nationwide buildout of data centers and backup power equipment needed for such buildings.
