Caterpillar Seals $890M Lafayette Expansion With Tax Abatements
The Lafayette Redevelopment Commission has approved two tax abatement requests for Caterpillar Inc.'s $890 million expansion at its Large Engine Center in Indiana. The project, which is expected to span several years, aims to modernize operations, improve manufacturing efficiency, and increase production capabilities.
Caterpillar's new investment includes $350 million in real property improvements and $540 million in manufacturing equipment and other personal property. The company is pledging to retain approximately 2,000 employees at the campus.
The commission unanimously approved resolutions recommending tax abatements for the two projects. Caterpillar has already invested $725 million in its Lafayette operations since 2024 and plans to bring its total investment in the community to over $1.6 billion over a decade.
