Caterpillar Inc. has delivered a historic performance in the second quarter of 2026, posting record sales and revenues of $20.5 billion, the first time in its 101-year history that it has crossed the $20 billion mark in a single quarter.

The heavy equipment giant beat Wall Street expectations on both the top and bottom lines, sending shares up as much as 9% in premarket trading and cementing its role as a key beneficiary of the artificial intelligence infrastructure boom.

Adjusted earnings per share came in at $8.17, a 73% increase from $4.72 a year earlier and well above the $6.19 consensus estimate. Revenue climbed 24% from $16.6 billion in the same quarter last year, driven by a $3.1 billion increase in sales volume and $595 million in favorable price realization.

According to Chairman and CEO Joe Creed, 'This is the first time in company history that we have generated over $20 billion in sales and revenues in a single quarter.'
