Caterpillar Stock Hits New Heights on Strong Earnings and Backlog Growth
Caterpillar's stock price has been on a tear over the past year, and its second-quarter 2026 earnings have only added fuel to the fire. The company reported a 24% increase in total sales and revenue from the same period last year, reaching USD 20.543 billion.
The operating profit also jumped to USD 4.295 billion, a substantial improvement from USD 2.86 billion in the prior-year quarter. Net profit attributable to common shareholders rose to USD 3.593 billion, compared with USD 2.179 billion in the same period last year.
This combination of double-digit revenue growth and increased net income has investors optimistic about Caterpillar's prospects. However, some analysts are cautioning that the company's valuation may be overextended, citing a discounted cash flow analysis that suggests the shares are significantly overvalued at their current price.
